Tote Bag and shirt decorated by Norah Jones for auction

Posted by admin - 2010-03-12 09:52:42

Norah has decorated a t-shirt and tote bag which is up for auction for Haiti relief. Binki Shapiro, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in the Los Angeles band Little Joy, has put together a star-studded online auction for Haiti relief. Shortly after the Earthquake struck Haiti last fall, Binki’s sister, Cheney, volunteered at a hospital in Port-Au-Prince. Rallying friends and colleagues for donations, the sisters bought medical supplies, food and survival equipment that Cheney hand delivered on arrival. When her sister returned with first hand stories of desperation and catastrophe, Binki felt she had not done enough to combat the immeasurable suffering still greatly affecting the region. Once again reaching out to her peers, the who’s who of the indie music and Hollywood scene responded with donations of one-of-a-kind items for Binki’s online auction. Items up for auction include:

• Tote Bag and shirt decorated by Norah Jones
• An all-costs covered produced track by Mark Ronson
• Pair of Tegan and Sara’s signature shoes, decorated by them
• A drawing by Spike Jonze
• Skateboard decorated by Kevin “Spanky” Long
• Mini-piano decorated by Maroon 5
• Camera decorated by Drew Barrymore

All proceeds will go to Artists For Peace and Justice. For more information and for a full list of contributors, with photos, visit craftsforacause.tumblr.com

Norah Jones plays Kentucky Center Friday night

Posted by admin - 2010-03-12 04:25:05

Jacob Duncan was a stud saxophonist in 1996 at the University of North Texas, home to one of the nation's finest jazz programs. A restless collaborator, Duncan was always seeking out new musical partners, and ad-hoc bands were constantly being thrown together for jam sessions.

That's how he met a petite freshman with big eyes, a pretty voice and a capacity for alcohol that could shame grown men. Her name was Norah Jones, and after a few weeks of playing together she and Duncan forged a friendship that lingers to this day.
